whatever you think you see ... is a reflection of your own mind.
time, as one of the most influential aspects in pinhole photography, runs the main thread through this line of pictures.
the fascination lies not within the 'technical required' exposure time, but mainly on the things that happen during the exposure time and the effects of reproducing moving objects in the picture when the picture includes a longer period. the effect is great and doesn't spare an existential connotation: whatever is moving ... is alive ... whatever is alive ... will fade away.
the influences to this picture line are multifarious and are going back directly the the origins of photography, to louis daguerre and his picture of the "boulevard du temple" from 1838 which is meant to be a very crowded boulevard in the midst of paris.
in the years 1887-1901 eadweard muybridge fragmented different motions to analyze detailed courses of movements which are not visible to the human eye. some years later frank and lillian gilbreth developed the chronocyclograph to investigate mainly courses of movements in the context of optimizing production-workflows.
and of course we want to mention henri cartier-bresson and his 1952 published 'decisive moment' which we have to enlarge to a 'decisive period'. otto steinert's 'ein-fußgänger' as much as a pinhole picture of a hand on a bridge in venice by arno rafael minkkinen had a great influence in developing this picture line.
